Being a real live heroine, Welcome Friendship Fliers

  1. Is that the program for the celebration at Medford? (Can't read the bottom lines.) That one, of course, would be the one that Muriel got to attend, and thus this program would have been more personally meaningful to her than programs from any of the other cities' Friendship Flight celebrations. Can you imagine how Muriel must have felt, seeing her sister suddenly a celebrity, watching her sister get up on the stand and deliver a few remarks to the home-town crowd?

  2. I love the drawing on the flier. Mmmm...that's quite the homonym. Are you enjoying a little hiatus from working on the novel now that the first draft is done?

  3. It's the Boston parade and celebration. They have the whole program at Schlesinger, though I've seen the image used in so many other ways over these last few years. Iconic. Yes, Muriel certainly must have had mixed emotions since Amelia didn't even share that she was embarking on this flight. I think of that as a real demarcation line, the ultimate before and after. She only wanted them to know after she was already aloft, and everyone else knew too. Apparently from what I've read, she didn't trust them not to 'spill the beans.' Who knows really? But it makes for great fodder for me.

As for relaxing, I'm in full anxiety mode Colleen. It's out with someone in the business. I hope they tell me good things, only good things, but when does that ever happen, right?

  4. Oops, I meant Boston.
As you say, who knows really. But I think if I were in her position, I too wouldn't tell the family because they'd probably try to talk me out of doing the flight, and that would just be an added source of stress.

  5. Yes, you're probably right. But not telling does put you in the situation of having them find out afterwards which creates a different sort of tension. In the end, some people are comforting and supportive, others aren't. . .
